Homemade Colon Cleanse: Keeping it Simple

An increasing number of people are becoming more health conscious each day. There are all kinds of do-it-yourself home remedies on the internet for just about every condition under the sun. You can even find recipes for a homemade colon cleanse compliments of a search engine near you. The information overload you encounter through the information super highway can have you mixing every potion and concoction known to man and some unknown. Amidst the barrage of web information, finding a simple recipe for an effective homemade colon cleanse does not have to be difficult.

Psyllium Seed Husks

Psyllium seed husks have been traditionally used for ages to treat constipation. Any effective store-bought or homemade colon cleanse will contain this ingredient. Psyllium is a high-fiber bulking agent that promotes colon health. The husks swell when they come in contact with water, forming a jellylike mass that hydrates feces and makes it soft. The accumulated psyllium bulk stimulates the colon to contract and empty itself. When taken with enough water, any fecal matter that has been hardened and trapped in the colon can be softened and set free from the walls of your colon by these husks. Psyllium seed husks can be found separately or incorporated into colon cleanse product.

Probiotics

An effective homemade colon cleanse recipe will also include probiotics. Probiotics are simply the opposite of antibiotics. While antibiotics destroy bad bacteria (and sometimes good bacteria), probiotics promote the presence of good bacteria in the digestive system. Probiotics strengthen the immune system and create an environment where parasites and bad bacteria have less of a chance to thrive. Probiotics are easily found in sour milk and cultured dairy products like yogurt.

Both psyllium seed husks and probiotics are essential components to look for in any store-bought or homemade colon cleanse. If a product or recipe does not contain these ingredients within its system, it is likely to be ineffective. Be wary of free colon cleanse recipes that require you to purchase another product in order to "complete the system". It may be a legitimate product that, but you can probably get it in its generic form at your local health food store for a fraction of the cost.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't purchase a reputable system that provides real benefits, just be cautious when a homemade colon cleanse is advertised as free but really requires the purchase of a product to reap the full benefits. In some cases, these products are sub-standard and don't provide much in the way of value or results.
